Accountants in Hertfordshire & UK-wide

Clear answers when you need them, and time to plan ahead.

I set up GDR after seeing too many business owners hear from their accountant only when a deadline was close. By that point, the moment for a question or a smart tax decision has often gone. Here, you can get answers as soon as you need them and plan ahead with a clear view of your business.

How we work

Three steps to getting started

  1. Step 1

    Free discovery call

A relaxed chat about where your business is now, what's on your mind and where you want to get to. There's no pitch and no obligation.

  2. Step 2

    Clear options and pricing

If we're a good fit, we'll put together some options with clear pricing, then go through them with you on a second call.

  3. Step 3

    We get you set up

If you're happy, you sign up and we handle onboarding, including any handover from your previous accountant. Then we keep your filings on track.

Tax dates

The UK dates worth keeping in your diary

Missing one of these can mean a penalty. When we look after your tax, we keep track of them for you.

FAQ

Questions we often hear

What happens on the free call?

It's an informal discovery chat, with no sales pitch and no obligation. We'll talk about where your business stands today, what's concerning you and what you want to achieve. If we're a good match, we'll prepare some clear options with pricing and go through them with you on a follow-up call. If you're happy with them, we'll get you signed up.

How do payments work?

Most of our work runs on a 12-month engagement, starting with a one-off onboarding fee to get everything set up properly. If there's a backlog of catch-up work to bring things current, we'll scope and agree that separately before starting. Ongoing fees are then split evenly across your engagement period, so you know exactly what's due and when.

Do I need to register for VAT?

You must register if your taxable turnover goes over £90,000 in any rolling 12-month period, or if you expect it to in the next 30 days alone. You can also register voluntarily below that level, which can help some businesses. We can work out whether it makes sense for you.

Do I need to file a Self Assessment tax return?

You usually do if you're self-employed with income over £1,000, a partner in a business, or have untaxed income such as rent. Other situations can also bring you into Self Assessment, so send us your details if you're unsure.

Should I be a sole trader or a limited company?

It depends on your profits, how you want to take money out of the business and how much administration you're happy with. A limited company separates your personal assets from the business but brings more filing duties. We'll compare both using your own numbers.

Can I change accountant part-way through the year?

Yes. We contact your previous accountant for the information we need and take over from there. You don't need to wait for your year end.

What is Making Tax Digital for Income Tax?

It requires sole traders and landlords above an income threshold to keep digital records and send HMRC quarterly updates. It began in April 2026 for qualifying income over £50,000 and extends to over £30,000 in April 2027 and over £20,000 in April 2028.
